Rodolfo Mederos was born on March 25th 1940 in Buenos Aires. He studied bandoneon in Córdoba, following this with studies in biology. At the same time he took his first steps as a composer and arranger, founding the group „Octeto Guarda Nueva“. In 1965 he moved to Buenos Aires where he subsequently developed his professional activities.

 

He worked with many famous musicians for recordings and concerts, such as Osvaldo Pugliese, for whose orchestra he was the bandoneon player and arranger beween 1969 and 1974, as well as Astor Piazzolla, Mercedes Sosa and Joan Manuel Serrat. With Daniel Barenboim he recorded a CD in 1995 and went on a tour of Europe and the USA in 1996/97. Mederos also played with Alberto Cortéz, the Camerata Bariloche and the Orquesta de Camara Reina Sofía.

 

Mederos is active as a bandoneonist and arranger. He leads his own quintet and is also professor at the „Escuela de Música Popular“ (since 1985), giving courses in the technical elements of the language of tango and ensemble performance.

 

Mederos is also a popular composer of film and theatre music - he wrote the music for more than 10 films and a number of stage plays. Amongst the many LP’s and CD’s Rodolfo Mederos has recorded in the course of his career, there is the CD „Eterno Buenos Aires“, including all of the pieces as published by TONOS.
